An off-duty policeman arrested a suspect in possession of stolen property on Wednesday this week.
A 23 year-old man, Olwethu Dyantyi appeared in Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on 4 March on charges of possession of stolen property and two counts of house break-ins and theft.
According to a police statement from the SAPS Kwanobuhle, at about about 6.30 am Warrant Officer Mxolisi Bam was driving home from work when he noticed two suspicious men . When they spotted him the men started runningg away.
He gave chase and managed to arrest one who allegedly had two laptops. The suspect could not give a satisfactory account as to where he got the items.
During a preliminary investigation, it was found the suspect was linked to two different house break-ins.
Dyantyi was denied bail and detained at St Albans Correctional Centre. The case was remanded to 29 March 2016.
