Princess Charlene sponsors Tsitsikamma Academy

Princess Charlene of Monaco has sponsored Sea Rescue’s WaterWise Academy in the Tsisikamma.

The sponsorship has been made possible by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation which supports children on an international scale with water safety programmes. The Foundation has sponsored Liza Wigley, who is NSRI’s Wilderness based WaterWise Academy Instructor, the NSRI announced..

Liza has been running the programme in Eden for two years and in 2014 taught over 30 000 children about basic water safety.

Princess Charlene said: “Some off my present and future projects for my Foundation are underlining the importance, and reinforcing the awareness, of water safety. We are all aware of horrible stories about small children drowning because they could not swim.”

Growing up in Africa heightened Princess Charlene’s awareness of children, swimming lessons and water safety. The Foundation’s main vocation is to focus on the practice of sports, starting with swimming and rugby for children’s education and development. The Foundation’s programmes will soon be implemented in different countries to help prevent drowning.

The WaterWise Academy lesson, which is taught in the safety of a school classroom, includes how to avoid danger in or near water, how to rescue a peer, who to call for help and how to do bystander CPR.
