15 Sea Vista men in court yesterday on public violence charges

Fifteen  residents from the Sea Vista area of  St Francis Bay appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of public violence.

The 15 men (not 13 as was earlier reported) were arrested on Saturday 21 June after a march and demonstration on the R330 road by about 500 Sea Vista residents.  The R330 is the only public entrance and exit route for St Francis Bay,  Cape St Francis and Sea Vista residents.

The R330 was completely blocked off and motorists were unable to enter or leave the town. Police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd and reopen the road after 4 hours.

The men were not asked to plead and the case was postponed until 22 July. The men are out on bail of R100 each.
