Update: Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, has expressed shock, disbelief and profound sadness following the brutal murder of Ward 27 Councillor Sicelo Mleve, who was gunned down by unknown assailants while conducting a community meeting at a ward office.
“This senseless and cowardly act has robbed the people of Ward 27 and Nelson Mandela Bay of a dedicated public servant who was committed to improving the lives of residents and strengthening community development,” she says.
The Executive Mayor said the attack on Councillor Mleve was not only an attack on an elected public representative but also an attack on democracy, community participation and the collective efforts to build safer communities.
“We are devastated by this horrific incident. Councillor Mleve was serving his community and engaging residents on matters affecting their daily lives when his life was cruelly cut short. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, colleagues and the entire Ward 27 community during this painful time.”
The Executive Mayor calls on all community members who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement agencies..
