SAPS cops and traffic police in their cars will be out in full force, with the SANDF on standby, from early tomorrow am in the Sea Vista suburb of St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape, to stop South Africans possibly attacking foreigners, plus closing down spaza shops or possibly even some threats of ‘burning them down’.
Reports started circulating yesterday, 14 May, of possible protest action by this group’s Xenophobia ( fear / dislike of foreigners) The SAPS told St Francis Chronicle it started mobilisng already yesterday and the SAPS will have many SAPS divisions and police force members here the whole weekend in Sea Vista and environs to protect the people in the St Francis community .
And the South African Army, an SANDF contigent currently based in Humansdorp, will be on standby as back-up to assist the local SAPS police, and other law enforcement officers. They will prevent and stop attacks on any foreigners tomorrow by the anti-foreigner group of South Africans in Sea Vista, the SAPS says..
There are many foreigners in the area , at least 80% some say, who are renting portions of land and living in Sea Vista. The SAPS also confirmed to this newspaper that they are investigating the ongoing unhappiness of the community of Sea-Vista in St Francis Bay regarding foreign nationals and the reports they are now threatening to chase all foreigners away from St Francis Bay.
“The SAPS will have enhanced visibility and are monitoring the situation,” the SAPS says. “We wish to warn communities and vigilante groups that no individuals or organisation have authority to evict foreign nationals, check immigration status, or force people out of their homes. “Taking the law into your own hands is illegal!”.
A peaceful march by more than 200 South African residents from the Sea Vista suburb of St Francis to the SAPS police station took place on 29 March. The marchers said they were against the many undocumented foreigners living in Sea Vista, as they have negatively affected their lives, they said. They are now fed-up and want the SAPS to help remove those without legal papers.

Accordingly, yesterday, the SAPS reveals, it arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals in the Sea-Vista area during the execution of ‘Operation Identity,’ conducted in collaboration with the SA Provincial Department of Home Affairs.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates tomorrow, 16 May for updates.
