Edited by St Francis Chronicle: Gqeberha: Following up on a high-jacking & car-jacking incident the Gqeberha SAPS yesterday, 27 April, found the bodies of three victims in the bushes at Bethelsdorp.
The deceased adult men, aged 23-37, were found with gunshot wounds. The victims’ bodies were found on the Old Uitenhage Road, near Salt Dams, Salt Lake in Bethelsdorp. Two victims were found lying close to each other, while a third was located a few metres away after police followed a trail of blood.
The police said that at about 8.30 pm on Sunday, 26 April, a kidnapping and car-jacking was reported by a complainant. The crime occurred a Vukukhanye Street, Kwanobuhle.
The complainant reported the he and other occupants were in a white Mazda 323 when they were approached by five unknown men, two of whom had guns. The suspects allegedly pointed the firearms at the victims and demanded money and cell phones.
One of the suspects then took control of the vehicle and drove off with three occupants still inside, but leaving one victim at the scene. The suspects fled with the vehicle and two cell phones. No shots were fired during the incident and the police later recovered the abandoned vehicle in Algoa Road.
Cases of car-jacking, kidnapping, and triple murder are under investigation. No arrests have been made and the suspects remain unknown at this stage.
