A man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday, 25 May, in possession of a bag containing R6-million worth of the ephedrine drug.
According to South African Revenue Services (SARS) he was intercepted by the Revenue Services’ customs officials after claiming an unaccompanied bag.
“The interception followed collaborative efforts between SARS, airline officials and SAPS. The bag from Dar es Salaam was scanned and found to contain four 5kg bags of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for ephedrine, a principal ingredient of crystal methamphetamine,” SARS said today.
The man approached customs to claim the bag. Immediately after signing for delivery, he was arrested by SAP officers to be formally charged for drug possession.
