Man rescued from near drowning at Gamtoos

A 38 year old Uitenhage man was rescued from the surf at Gamtoos River Mouth yesterday, 1 January 2016., by two members of the public.

Jeffreys Bay NSRI medics treated the man on the scene for breathing difficulties and non-fatal drowning symptoms. On their arrival paramedics took over care of the man who was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

NSRI volunteer duty crew were activated at 5.39 pm following reports from police of a drowning in progress at the mouth. An NSRI sea rescue craft, a sea rescue vehicle an EC Government Health EMS responded.

The men who rescued the casualty have been commended for their actions.
