A 31-year-old woman was arrested shortly after dumping her three day-old child on the side of the road next to the N2 near Jeffreys Bay this week

Two women hitch hiking along the road on 29 October head cries coming from behind a bush along the road. They investigated and found the child lying on the ground under the bush.
The police were alerted and rushed the child to the Humansdorp Hospital within two hours of the child being found. The mother was arrested at a house in Humansdorp.
While at the hospital detectives received a lead on the identify of the mother which led them to a house The mother was subsequently arrested by Humansdorp Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit. Social welfare has been alerted and will assist with looking after the baby.
The baby received medical attention in hospital and appears be in good health. The alleged mother is due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate Court on Monday 2 November 2015 on charges of attempted murder and child abandonment.
