Two rapists plead guilty to raping American tourist at Storms River Two suspects who appeared in the Storms River Magistrate’s Court today, 24 June pleaded guilty to raping an American tourist earlier this month.
The first accused, Juame Thorne (26) was found guilty on two counts of rape while the other accused, Luwayne De Wee (25) was found guilty of a charge of rape.
Warrant Officer, Gerda Swart from SAP Corporate Communications in Uitenhage, EC, said at about noon on 1 June 2015, the 47-year-old woman was jogging in the Tsitsikamma area, Storms River, when she was approached by two unknown men who overpowered and raped her. Swift reaction by members from SAP Storms River led to the arrest of the two suspects within hours after the rape was reported.
The two accused will be sentenced on 26 June 2015 in the Storms River Magistrate’s Court.
Police praised the investigating officer, D/WO Lionel Annandale and SAP Storms River members who were involved in the case for a job well done, saying it shows their commitment to fighting crime against women and children effectively in the Humansdorp Cluster.
