Storms River police members swiftly arrested two suspects after the rape of a 47 year-old American woman in Tsitsikamma yesterday, 14 June, was reported to them.
The American woman , who is a teacher in Gauteng, was jogging in the Tsitsikamma area in Storms River when it’s alleged she was approached by two unknown men, SAP warrant officer Gerda Swart said. The men allegedly overpowered her and dragged her into nearby bushes where they raped her. The victim reported the matter to the local police.
A search for the suspects was launched immediately and a few house later, around 7.30 pm last night, the two suspects, aged 25 and 26 , were apprehended in the area. They will appear in the Storms River Magistrates Court on 17 June on rape charges.
The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier Neil Jantjies commended the members for tracing and arresting the suspects so speedily. “Crimes against women and children are a priority for the SAP,” he said. “We will leave no stone unturned, when investigating such cases, ” he said.
