A 68 year-old Jeffreys Bay man suffered a fatal heart attack on a remote stretch of beach between Kabeljous and Gamtoos River Mouth yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened while the man was fishing on the beach with friends and family.
At 3.15 pm on 25 April, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew responded to the scene following reports of an unknown emergency in progress. On arrival NSRI medics took over CPR efforts from family members of the man on the beach.
Private Care ambulance services and an EMS helicopter also responded and the man was loaded onto a bakkie and driven to Kabeljou’s with CPR continuing en route. Kabeljou’s paramedics continued with advanced life support CPR but after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted the man was declared deceased.
The NSRI has expressed sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the man whose name has not yet been released.
