A 33 year-old man was arrested on a bribery (corruption) charge this afternoon, 24 March, for allegedly offering a big sum of money for a case docket to ‘disappear’.
The man, who was arrested by Uitenhage SAP detectives, allegedly attempted to buy the docket that implicated him from an investigating officer in December 2014. The suspect made an appointment with the investigating officer at a complex in Uitenhage for the transaction to take place.
He allegedly offered the officer a substantial amount of money. The 33-year-old man is also a suspect in a burglary case that occurred in December 2014 in Uitenhage,
The man was arrested after a comprehensive investigation was conducted and is expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on 26 March 2015 on a charge of corruption.
“This arrest should serve as a reminder to the public, that corruption is not an option and we will stop at nothing to root out corrupt activities in the Uitenhage station area,” the Station Commander of SAPS Uitenhage, Brigadier Leonie Bentley, said.
