Kouga Municipality – opening of Council today – Address by Kouga Excutive Mayor, Booi Koerat:
Menbers if the Media Distinguished Guests…
Good morning, Molweni, Goeie môre.
I wish to thank our Speaker, the Kouga Council and our valued stakeholders for the opportunity to address you this morning on the state of the municipality.
As our President captured it so aptly when he spoke on the state of the nation:
“Local government is everybody’s business. We have to make it work.”
This sentiment is also reflected in the Freedom Charter, adopted 60 years ago at Kliptown, which states that “the people shall govern”.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The municipality is currently reviewing its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for the period 2012 – 2017 in consultation with communities so as to ensure that the work to be done going forward speaks to community needs.
We are gathered here today to take stock of the progress we have made in creating a people-centred society and to move the region forward in line with the “Back to Basics” programme launched by our national leadership last year.
