EFC Fighter Garreth ‘Soldier Boy’ McLellan is the latest inclusion in their Oakley X-Over Challenge cross-over competition, scheduled for next month.
The Oakley X-Over is an invite-only multi-discipline event that forms part of the JBay Winterfest, and will crown an Oakley X-Over Champion 2014. The event, set to take place over two days – the 15th and 16th July – will consist of a golf tournament, a surfing contest and a mountain bike race.
All athletes need to compete in all three disciples to stand a chance of winning the event and secure the Oakley X-Over crown for 2014. The winner will be announced on the night of the 16th at a closing function at the Jolly Dolphin in Jeffreys Bay.
Gareth joins an illustrious line-up of athletes and celebrities competing, including Ryan Sandes, Jordy Smith, Greg Minnaar, Ryan O’Connor, Butch James, Ruan De Smidt, Raynard Tissink, David Miller, Kevin Evans, John Smit and Bob Skinstad. The event locations include the Links Golf Course in St Francis, the JBay Winterfest Mountain Bike track, and Jeffreys Bay Lower Point for the surfing event. Gareth is the current EFC (Extreme Fight Championships) middle weight champion, a keen golfer, polished surfer and an avid mountain biker.
His inclusion in the event is going to throw a literal cat among the pigeons as he now comes in as one of the favourites for the inaugural running of this event. “I’m really excited about this event and having a go against the competition,” said
Durban-born McLellan. “I don’t surf as much as I’d like to, but I still get out there when I can, get on the mountain bike when I have the time, and cherish a round of golf. There’s no doubt about it that the invitees are going to be competitive and take the competition seriously, but I’m ready for that. It’s going to be fun.”
