Male suspect shot dead in Cape St Francis today
The Eastern Cape SAP have confirmed that a male suspect was fatally wounded during an attack on a member of the SAP at lunch time today, 17 February, 2014, in Cape St Francis.
The Eastern Cape SAP in a statement sent out by the SAP Corporate Communication, Eastern Cape, said it will give their full co-operation to the investigators of the IPID (Independent Police Investigative Directorate).
The incident occurred between 12 and 1 pm when a suspect was shot and fatally wounded during a police search.
“It is alleged that the suspect in his twenties robbed an elderly woman, while threatening her with a knife,” the statement said. “He then fled into nearby bushes.
“Police were called in and searched the area. They requested the suspect several times to come out and hand himself over. The suspect failed to adhere to the request and later stormed out of the bushes.
“He attempted to attack a police member with the knife. The SAP member fired a shot in self defence and the suspect was fatally wounded.”
