St Francis MTB Challenge postponed to next year
St Francis MTB Challenge due to be held on 25 November has been postponed to next year.
This is because all the routes are still under water. With only three weeks to go, not making a decision now was looking for trouble, organisers say.
“I believe in safety first, Eric Stewart from the organisers, St Francis Sport, says. “Even if we make changes to the race routes all areas will not be accessible to emergency vehicles should this be necessary. It is just not worth the risk.”.
The new date for the event is 18 – 20 January, the first weekend of the new school term. “It is the first CSA event of the year and two weeks before the Herald’s event.
The other events for this weekend will stay the same with the Balobi Team Day Ride and individual Night Ride on Friday, the Port Hole Kids Fun MTB Ride on Saturday morning, plus the 15km, 35km and 80km distances on Sunday from the St Francis Links. Online entries remain open on www.stfrancissport.co.za.
