Young Hdorp man sentenced to five years for robbing kids

Edited by Bev Mortimer: The young man Coallon Domingo  was found guilty of common robbery in a case that involved young children.

The case was thoroughly investigated by Detective Sergeant Kekana from the Humansdorp Detective who secured a successful conviction and sentencing in the robbery case, following the ruling handed down in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on 20 October.

A mother complained she sent her children to the local shop to withdraw money. On the way there Domingo and another man confronted the children, threatened them with a firearm, and robbed them of R1500.

Following a swift investigation, Domingo was arrested and the complainant pointed him out during the identification process. The convict remained was out on bail for the duration of the trial until his conviction and sentencing. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Humansdorp detectives have secured a successful conviction and sentencing in the robbery.

Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, praised the conviction and highlighted the importance of protecting vulnerable children from violent criminals.

“I welcome this five-year prison sentence and commend Detective Sergeant Kekana for ensuring this criminal was taken off our streets,” Major General Kupiso said. “Targeting and robbing young children who are simply running an errand for their parents is a cowardly act that we will not tolerate in this district. We hope this sentencing brings reassurance to the family and the broader Humansdorp community,” she added.
