Man missing in Kromme River

A Mozambican man is missing after taking a swim in the Kromme River in the Eastern Cape town of St Francis Bay, yesterday 1 October.

The 25 year-old man has not yet been found, according to the NSRI but  the Police K9 Search and Rescue and Water Policing and Diving Service (WPDS) are continuing an ongoing search efforts for the missing man.

The 25 year-old man went swimming near the River mouth. NSRI volunteer crew members were alerted at just after12.30 pm yesterday of a drowning in progress there.

 Louwrens Bezuidenhout, NSRI St Francis Bay deputy station commander, said NSRI St Francis Bay and NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crews were activated following reports of the drowning in progress.

NSRI rescue swimmers, from both NSRI St Francis Bay and NSRI Jeffreys Bay stations, plus REMS (Rapid Emergency Medical Service), and the SA Police Service responded and opened an investigation.

Some NSRI Francis Bay crew members on a private boat and an NSRI Jeffreys Bay jet-ski rescue craft, plus Kouga Fire and Rescue Services also responded, and local marine dredging contractors assisted with their boat.

The NSRI says thoughts and care are with the family, friends and colleagues, of the missing man in this difficult time.
