Edited: During law enforcement operations in response to anti-foreigner demonstrations from 28 June-1 July in the Eastern Cape, 904 arrests of undocumented foreign nationals and 17 criminal arrests were recorded.

In addition, Lt Gen Ncata emphasised that unlawful actions will not be tolerated.  He urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any security concerns through official SAPS channels, since “vigilantism undermines the rule of law and endangers both community members and foreign nationals.”

Law enforcement officers maintained a strong visible presence to ensure the Eastern Cape Province remained largely calm and stable during the 28 June-1 July period. Significant operational successes were recorded across all eight policing districts. A total of 28 marches were monitored, with the largest gatherings in Bizana, Lusikisiki, Flagstaff, and Mthatha.

Lt Gen Ncata highly commended collaborative efforts by all law enforcement agencies, including municipal police, traffic authorities, the Department of Home Affairs, and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Department of Correctional Services, State Security Agency.

He extended his appreciation to law enforcement members for their unwavering dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty throughout this period.  “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to each and every member who has worked tirelessly over the past three days to ensure the safety and security of our communities.

“Your visible presence, swift responses, and professional conduct have been exemplary. You have demonstrated that the SAPS is capable, ready, and willing to protect and serve the people of this province under any circumstances.”

Lt Gen Ncata also praised members who worked long hours under challenging conditions – those who conducted patrols, vehicle checkpoints, business inspections, and immigration enforcement, plus those who stood firm in volatile areas to maintain public order.

“Your dedication has not gone unnoticed. The people of the Eastern Cape are safer because of your efforts. I encourage you to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline.”

“To every officer who answered the call of duty, I salute you. Your commitment to protecting our communities is the bedrock of our democracy. Thank you for your service,” Lt Gen Ncata added.
