Funds are urgently needed to help the St Francis pothole-fixing team of Barry, Craig and Trevor, to continue repairing the R330 road between St Francis and Humansdorp.
The trio have done wonders with their labour and contractors, and through kind donations from the St Francis community, and their own personal funds, have now just under two days of funds left to finish repairing the R33- which was halted temporarily by the heavy, recent rains.
Barry himself has offered to top up the funds’ kitty for the second day – if no more funds come in. But two days won’t get much done with all the damage
Barry posted this morning the following message:
“As the St Francis community “pothole gang” we are shocked at how badly the road opened up with the heavy rain after we repaired almost all potholes between the circle and Cape St Francis. We suspect the new ones were previous provincial repairs not done properly.
“Unfortunately we don’t have enough funds left to repair all the damage from the recent rain.
“We feel we need to prioritise the section between the bridge and the dip as it has the highest speed zones on the road so the most dangerous section.
“I have had a reach out from a Cape St Francis business for our contractor to repair the section from the Cape St Francis welcome sign towards Seal Point with them paying for one day of repairs.”
The St Francis community has lauded the the pothole-fixers work this past month of April, and the safer road on social media, praising them for rolling up their sleeves and doing the jobs themselves, owing to little or incomplete, no-win repairs by those officially responsible for fixing that dangerous road, riddled with potholes.
In light of the above, an urgent appeal is being made for further donations. Those who are able to donate funds to enable the trio and contractors to finish the pothole repair project and save lives are most welcome to do so.
