A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and attacked in St Francis on 12 April and the SAPS has confirmed that a case of attempted rape and sexual assault was reported at the SAPS police station.
The SAPS says the 36 year-old woman recounted that on that day at 1.35 pm she was walking alone on the coastal path to Cape St Francis, at the end of St Francis Drive. She was carrying car keys and cellphone.
The woman also alleged in her account that while walking she felt someone grabbing her from behind. She screamed and asked the suspect to let her go. She offered the man her cellphone and alleged the suspect said he did not want any things from her, only sex. The police said when the man tried to touch the woman she screamed, but managed to break free, before running away.
A friend of the woman posted further details of the incident on a WA group, saying the woman did not know or recognised the man who grabbed her. The woman was subjected to being sexually violated by the perpetrator, before she broke free. The attacker allegedly ran after her when she broke free, before disappearing into the dunes.
The friend said she immediately contacted the Calibre Control Room and that her friend was very traumatised by the incident. She said that pathway was regularly used by locals and visitors to go through Shelley Beach in Cape St Francis and she warns people to be careful.
The SAPS says the investigation is ongoing.
