Armed suspects fired four shots through the closed doors of a Humansdorp tavern in the wee hours of this morning, wounding three people inside.
The perpretators fled in a white Isuzu bakkie but immediate response by the local SAPs led to the apprehension of two suspects . Two others ran away but K9 SAP members arrested them later this morning. 17 October.
Lieutenant Gerda Swart said the incident happened at the Kwanomzamo tavern in Mtsila Street at 2 am. Quick response by the SAPS members led to the arrest of the four suspects, aged between 24–27-years-old, she said.
Swart also said it is alleged that an argument erupted inside the tavern and security members asked the occupants to leave the premises. Security closed the doors of the tavern and then men outside allegedly shot through the doors.
The four suspects are due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on 19 October on charges of attempted murder. Police are searching for the firearms and anyone who can assist with information is asked to call investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer, Pieter Prinsloo, on 042 200 1500 or 083 301 4465.
Swart called on the community to share information and support each other in the fight against crime.
She added that Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier Neil Jantjies, has applauded the SAP members for their quick response in apprehending the suspects.
“The South African Police Service will not tolerate crime in the Humansdorp area and we call upon our community to report any firearms which are in possession of the criminals, ” Jantjies said.
