A woman in her seventies and a 31 year-old man who stopped to assist an ‘injured’ man on the roadside , were robbed by two men and threatened with a panga.
And the SAP has warned motorists to avoid stopping to assist in cases like this. “Be vigilant, particularly on the Aston Bay Road,” Captain Gerda Swart from the Uitenhage SAPS cautions good Samaritans.
Swart says the incident occurred on 14 June at 1.25 in the early morning when the two victims were travelling towards Aston in a the road next to Oceanview.
They spotted a man lying next to the road and stopped to assist. The ‘injured’ man allegedly jumped up and a second suspect joined him and the couple was threatened with a panga.
The men made off with a handbag containing cash and fled.
A case of robbery is being investigated at the SAPS Jeffreys Bay.
Swart advises that instead of stopping to assist, motorists should rather phone the SAPS and report an incident.
