Huge crime bust in Uitenhage SAPS Cluster

Police arrested 110 suspects in Uitenhage Cluster this past weekend in a massive crime bust.

The arrests were part of crime prevention operations from 6 pm on  8 April until 6 am on 11 April.  A total of 40 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R20 000. 

The suspects were arrested for charges relating to the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm, robbery (aggravating), house break-ins and theft, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, robbery common, etc.  Four arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor and 24 persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession.  A total of 19 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. 

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to proactively address crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster, a press release from the Cluster said.
“The SAPS appeals to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
