Uitenhage SAPS surprised three alleged house robbers early yesterday morning while two were allegedly assaulting the home owner and third was allegedly stealing valuables.
At 2:00 am on 28 November, a concerned neighbor in Brocket Street, De Mist, alerted police. SAP members responded immediately to the distress call.
As the police approached the house they noticed a 30 year-old victim tied up and sitting on a chair in his bedroom. The police also saw two men assaulting the victim and a third suspect, a 16 year-old girl, collecting clothing, cellphones, cash, etc. from the house.
The police went around the house and entered the home through a back, unlocked door and surprised the three robbers in the act. The men, aged 31 and 36, and the teenage girl, were arrested on a charge of house robbery.
The three are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Leonie Bentley praised the community members for their speedily response. “We need to stand together as community and SAPS in this fight against crime,” she said.
