St Francis Bay volunteer duty crew evacuated a chokka fisherman suffering seizures on a boat offshore of Oyster Bay on Friday last week, 16 October.
Paul Hurley, NSRI St Francis Bay station commander, said at 8.30 pm the NSRI crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of St Francis II following a request for medical assistance from the chokka fishing boat Jolene reporting an unconscious crewman having seizures on board. The boat was making best speed towards Port St Francis.
The NSRI local crew met up with the boat near the Cape St Francis lighthouse and the patient was transferred to the sea rescue craft. Under the care of NSRI medics he was brought to Port St Francis, lapsing in and out of consciousness from post seizure symptoms. He was handed over to ambulance paramedics and was taken to hospital in a stable but serious condition.
