Mick Fanning of Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Australia, won his opening Round 1 heat of the Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo on 15 August 2015. The Round 1 heat was Fanning’s first back in competition after his shark encounter at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa on 19 July 2015.
