Two men travelling on the R331 road between Hankey and Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape were held up by armed men, tied with cables and robbed of valuables last week.
The suspects, Vincent Jayiya (44) and Luthando Jekeqa (22) appeared in Hankey Magistrate’s Court on 10 July 2015 on charges of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The two men were denied bail.
According to the SAP for Uitenhage cluster, two men had stopped on the R331 roadside to have refreshments at about 11 am on 8 July 2015. After allegedly robbing them, the two suspects fled in a blue Toyota Yaris.
The suspects were soon after arrested by police, who had acted speedily, on the N2 near Thornhill. The suspects were in possession of the stolen goods.
“K9 dogs recovered two firearms hidden in between the engine and the dashboard of the vehicle,” police said.
