Two in court for defacing Uitenhage War Memorial

Two women suspects arrested in connection with defacing the Uitenhage War Memorial appeared in court this morning, 26 June,  and were granted bail of R500 each.

 The two accused are Nombulelo Mkwena (28) and Vuyokazi Voxeka (29). The case was remanded in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court until 15 July  for further investigation. 

 The women were arrested for defacing of the South African War Memorial next  to the Uitenhage Town hall in Uitenhage on 21 June.  A case of malicious damage to property was reported on 22 June.  Uitenhage police members arrested the pair on 24 June after they received valuable information from the community. 

 The Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Leonie Bentley, applauded the sterling work done by the police officials involved and said the arrests will help deter people from committing these types of crimes.
