Man, 51, dies while swimming at JBay beach
Beachgoers at Jeffreys bay yesterday were taken aback by the sight of a 51 year-old man floating face downwards in the sea.
He had apparently had a heart attack while swimming.
According to Rieghard Janse van Rensburg, NSRI Jeffreys Bay station commander, at 3.25 pm on 8 March, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew dispatched its Discovery Rescue Runner and a sea rescue vehicle to Albatross Beach where eye-witnesses reported seeing the man.
EC Government Health EMS and Police also responded. On arrival NSRI Jeffreys Bay rescuers found the man, from Port Elizabeth, being rescued from the surf by bystanders.
CPR efforts were conducted but EC Government Health EMS paramedics confirmed the man was deceased. Police informed the man’s family and his body was taken away by the police.
NSRI and the Emergency Services express sincere condolences to family and friends of the deceased man.
