The fire was reported at 9:35 am. Firefighters from both St Francis and Humansdorp were dispatched. The fire was completely extinguished by 10:23 am.

The shacks were home to two couples and four young men – no children. All were at work at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown, according to the municipality. There were no injuries reported.

The municipality’s disaster management coordinator visited the scene this morning to do a needs analysis and to determine if there is anything the municipality can do to assist those affected. The now homeless people indicated that they would stay at friends and families until they are able to rebuild their homes.
