Humansdorp rapist gets 8 years

A 21 year-old Humansdorp man was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for raping a 20 year-old woman in 2011.

Johan Kettledas was sentenced at the Humansdorp Magistrates’ Court earlier this month for the crime he committed on 11 July 2011 in Gill Marcus, Humansdorp.

According to a media statement from Corporate Communication, SAP Uitenhage and Humansdorp, on that date, at about 5.30 pm, the victim and her friend were walking home to Donkerhoek when they noticed two men  following them.  As the men approached, the victim recognised one of them who indicated he wanted to talk to her.

When the woman told him she had nothing to say to him, the accused became aggressive and grabbed her. His friend left and walked away.

The accused dragged the woman into the nearby bushes and raped her. He blocked off the woman’s frantic screams by putting his hand over her mouth.

The victim’s friend went to her house and informed her family about the incident. Meanwhile the victim managed to get away from the accused and went home.

She reported the incident to the police immediately. The accused was arrested shortly after the incident and remained in custody until the finalisation of the case on 17 February 2012.
