Eastern Province surfers in SA Junior selection trials

Surfers  for the 2012 SA Junior Team selection trials at New Pier in Durban between 10-11 December have been named.

Among the surfers who will compete in the U18 boys are Dylan Lightfoot and Jarred Veldhuis (both EP), Slade Prestwich (KZNC) with Mikey Venter and Brandon Benjamin (WP). Diran Zakarian (Bol) is the reserve in this division.

The Under 18 Girls trialists are Emma and Gina Smith and Tahra Uren (all EP), Chanelle Botha (SKZN) and Nicole Pallet (WP). Roxy Giles (SCape) and Carryn Mc Nicol (KZNC) are the reserves. The Under 16 Boys are Benji Brand and Dillon Fernandez (both WP), Simo Mkhize (SKZN), Matthew McGillivray (EP) and Steffen Burrows (Bol). Shane Sykes (KZNC) is the reserve.

The Board of Directors of Surfing SA will announce the names of the surfers who will join SA Under 18 Boys Champion Josh Smit (KZNC), SA Under 18 Girls Champion Sarah Baum (KZNC) and SA Under 16 Champion Max Armstrong (WP), plus the team manager and coaches within five days of the conclusion of the trial.

The three National champions gained automatic positions in the 2012 SA Junior Team when they won their respective titles at the Hurley SA Junior Championships in October. The 2012 SA Junior Team will compete in the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships at Playa Venao in Panama in early April next year.

Surfing South Africa is the governing body for surfing in South Africa. SSA is a member of the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
