Compassionate St Francis residents rally to help homeless

Compassionate people in St Francis Bay rallied to the call to help the homeless people in Sea Vista yesterday.

The big donation of food seen at the Sea Vista Community Hall this morning. Pastor Andrew Vena collected the food and clothing donations from St Francis Bay Rotary Club last night and left them at the hall . He is seen here (red shirt) with women volunteer chefs from Sea Vista who are cooking meals for the homeless.

The St Francis Bay Rotary Club collection point at  SuperSpar St Francis Bay gathered 6.5 trolley loads of foodstuffs and a further amazing 6 trolley loads of clothing and bedding.

“This will go a long way to alleviating their suffering. Thank you very much indeed and thank you to Our Spar for their generous cooperation as always,” says Tracy de Jager chairperson.

At least 12 shacks were burnt down in the Zwelitsha illegal squatter camp on Monday afternoon leaving around 50 people destitute and with just the clothes on their back.

More donations are welcome as it could take some time before new homes are built or found for the homeless and before they will be able to cook their own food again.

Here is a list of suggested items: maize meal, pilchards, baked beans, flour, rice,  oats, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, toilet paper, soap and toothpaste, old clothes, shoes, towels and bedding

Anyone wishing to donate please call Tracy on: 083 388 6296.
