Raising funds for rhinos by walking

St Francis Tourism and St Francis Sport have teamed up to hold a fun walk on Heritage Day – either 5 km or 10 km –  with a percentage of the proceeds going towards the preservation of rhinos.

Seeing that Saturday is Heritage Day (24 September) it was decided to offer St Francis residents and visitors the chance to take a leisurely walk from the Port and then back.  The organisers are also offering fun prizes such as to those who wear the most outlandish outfits.

Participants can walk any time from 9 am onwards. There is no need to rush as this is no race.  At 12.30 pm there is the prize giving in the Ski Boat Club.

The 5 km route is to St Francis Field and back while the 10 km walk will see participants walking  through the Air Park then through the Irma Booysen Reserve, via Da Gama Road onto the beach, down to Shark Point and back to the Port.  All ages can enter.

After prize giving there is an optional educational talk about Wildlife and Marine Conservation at 1 pm in the Ski Boat Club.

In the afternoon there is a fun Heritage Day fishing competition for children on the jetties between 2 and 4 pm. Bait will be provided.

The entry fee for the walk is R20 p/p and R100 per team of four for the fishing competition.  For more info contact Esti on:  073 825 0835.
