St Francis Sport awarded Kim van Kets and her Tri The Beloved Country Expedition support team members with honorary gold medals last night at a special function.

Extreme trail runner and adventure athlete,  Kim van Kets,  who was in St Francis Bay this week, started her epic solo expedition on 1 March in East London. She then ran along the coast line to the Mozambican border, then followed the border on a mountain bike to where the Orange River meets Namibia and then paddled 615 km to Port Nolloth.

Next Kim again started running along the South African coast line to Mossel Bay, where she then reverted to cycling again.  Kim should arrive in East London on 25 July after doing 6 800km in only 5 months in aid of the Carel du Toit Centre for the deaf in East London.

She is supported by husband, Peter van Kets, her 6 year-old daughter and an au pair, Kirsty Bolbery. She has been sponsored by Spar, Global Business Solutions and the Mpekweni Lodge.  Her relatives from the three Donnelly families of St Francis Bay are also supporting  their ‘crazy cousins’ and are proud of them!
