New bridge across the Sand to be competed this evening

This photo and the two, below, show bulldozers and workers hard at work to make a double lane road across the Sand River. Workers anticipated the road would be completed by this evening. Photos taken at 3 pm

According to a foreman at the construction site at the broken Sand River bridge, a new double lane bridge has been built on the Links side of the old bridge. Speaking in an unofficial capacity, the foreman advised the road would be strong , built with compacted wet sand and gravel.

Asked if the road would be able to accommodate heavy pantechnikons  and tankers, like a petrol tanker, he replied in the affirmative. He added that two tankers or two pantechnikons would not be able to cross the bridge at the same time.
