Bulgarian criminal worked incognito as a CT gym instructor

Edited: A fugitive, convicted Bulgarian national, wanted by Interpol for drug trafficking, concealed his identity in Cape Town for several years when he worked as a gym instructor and personal trainer at an upmarket Cape Town gym.

He was arrested this weekend on Friday, 27 February, at his Cape Town hide-out by the SAPS National Intervention Unit (NIU), the South African Police Service (SAPS) says.
The 41 year-old Bulgarian, Stanislav Stamenov, was a convicted drug trafficker and part of a large criminal organised group involved in the trafficking of heroin into neighbouring Romania.
Stamenov was sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment in Romania in 2009 but fled the country soon after his arrest. He was placed on an Interpol red notice, a global search request to law enforcement agencies across the world for assistance in apprehending a fugitive.
The SAPS believes Stamenov had been working for several years as a gym instructor and personal trainer a Cape Town gym.
Following his arrest by NIU he is currently being detained and will appear before the Wynberg Magistrate Court for his extradition matter tomorrow, Monday.
