Three people were taken out of the water, and one was declared dead by paramedics while the other two were unharmed, one an 18 year-old girl, were unharmed.

The NSRI says at 6.20 pm the KZN surf rescue network was alerted to what was initially reported as at least three people in distress in the surf zone at Pennington Beach near to the tidal pool, KZN South Coast.
The search continued for the three missing persons in the surf. During the night, at around 9.30 pm, police divers recovered the deceased body of another young man.
The bodies of the two deceased youngsters were taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Condolences were are conveyed to family and friends of the deceased. Police opened an Inquest dockets for the two deaths .
Police Search and Rescue, assisted by NSRI and lifeguards, continue to search for two missing youngsters.
