Life lost and five injured in head-on collision

Edited by Bev Mortimer: The SAPS is still investigating a case of culpable homicide after a fatal head-on collision between a Renault Triber and a VW Amarok claimed one life near Thornhill on the N2 highway from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape in South Africa on 24 December.
The police say that on Christmas Eve, about 1 pm, the SAPS was summoned to a complaint of an accident on the N2 near Thornhill. The 52 year-old of the Renault was declared dead on the scene, and five passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Amarok was the only occupant and he sustained slight injuries. The circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation.
The N2 opened again after being closed for some time following the accident. Motorists had to use alternative routes.
