Breaking story… By Bev Mortimer – Shoprite Checkers staff members in the South African town of Jeffreys Bay were held up by three armed men at about 6.15 am this morning when they opened the store doors on arrival .
The SAPS say when staff members tried to close the door, the three suspects, armed with guns, pushed the door open and forcefully entered the store and instructed staff members to stand together in a corner while the suspects search their bags.
The SAPS confirmed they are attending to an active business robbery crime scene at the Shoprite Checkers in St Francis Street (Vyeboom Sentrum) in Pelsrus Jeffrey’s Bay in Pellsrus.
The suspects took four cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash from the bags of the staff members. The suspects also took cigarettes from the shelf before they fled the scene in a white white Polo Vivo that belongs to the Manager.
The vehicle was recovered by police minutes later where it was found abandoned in Oceanview Jeffrey’s Bay. The investigation is on-going.
