NB News Flash! The Gqeberha SAPS has been informed of alleged threats to burn trucks on the R335/Addo Road tomorrow, 5 September.
This is according to the SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, tonight, 4 September, who says several trucking companies have claimed that they have allegedly been intimidated not to use their trucks tomorrow – otherwise their trucks will be stopped and burned. A certain group of people is allegedly unhappy that foreign drivers are being used by the trucking companies, Major General Ncata, said.
Reacting Major General Ncata said: “We cannot allow law abiding community and businesses to be intimidated in this way by being threatened with violence in order for such law breakers having their way. Any law breakers damaging property of others will face the full force of the Law,” he said.
“Security partners will be deployed in the affected area to stop any potential violence, and to ensure the safety of all motorists and trucks on our public roads in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.!
The SAPS says discourages this type of intimidation. The SAPS encourages and urges business owners who have been threatened with violence to open intimidation cases against the perpetrators, Major General Ncata said. “The SAPS also warns any perpetrators using intimidation tactics that there are legal avenues to use instead of of violence, to solve issues affecting them.”
