St Francis Chronicle, 19 August, Edited: A case of attempted murder has been opened after a senior Justice official in PE was shot at several times outside his residence early yesterday morning, 18 August.
The identity of the senior official from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) official and his family are being withheld for their safety and security. The Kamesh SAPS says the shooting incident occurred in the Tiryville area in Kariega at about 1.15 in the morning .
The official arrived at his private residence with his family. When their vehicle stopped at his premises’ gate four unidentified men approached the vehicle.
One suspect produced a gun and discharged multiple shots at the vehicle before the group fled the scene on foot. No one inside the vehicle was injured during the attack.
The motive for the attack is currently unknown and forms a critical line of the investigation. A case of attempted murder has been registered at SAPS Kamesh.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has condemned the incident. “The brazen attack on an officer of the court and his family is an attack on the very foundation of our justice system. We will not tolerate such acts of intimidation and violence. We are confident that we will apprehend those responsible,” Maj Gen Kupiso said.
