A clear way forward has been agreed to prevent re-occurrence of floods in Santareme
This was revealed by the St Francis Bay Residents’ Association (SFBRA) today, 10 April 2013. “If fully implemented it will reduce flood risk in the broader area and be of benefit from Sea Vista to the village.”
The SFBRA recounts that during the 2012 floods natural lakes were formed on the dune fields above St Francis Drive. When one of the lakes breached on 15 September 2012, severe damage was done to properties in Tom Brown Boulevard and surrounding areas. “This has resulted in property buyers avoiding this area in case of repeat floods in the future.”
A series of recent meetings involving representatives of the St Francis Bay Residents Association, National and Provincial Dept. of Public Works, Kouga Municipality and Civil Engineering consultants ‘Aurecon’, have been held to prevent further floods.
“SFBRA will continue to monitor progress with this project and report back to the community. We are positive that this project will go ahead to the benefit of all in the greater community,” the SFBRA adds.
