NSRI Mykonos rallied to the assistance of a 28 year-old female Dutch windsurfer in difficulty at Langebaan Lagoon yesterday, 24 February 2013.
NSRI Mykonos volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated at 6.31 pm following reports of a windsurfer in difficulty on the lagoon opposite the Strandloper Restaurant. The NSRI said its crew launched the Discovery Rescue Runner and responded.
On arrival on-scene a female windsurfer, Vreija Oudshoorn from Holland, was found to be in the water exhausted after failing to get her wind sail up in the wind and she was drifting on the lagoon. “She was taken on board the Discovery Rescue Runner and her sailboard was taken under tow and she was brought safely ashore where she required no further assistance,” the NSRI said.
