The St Francis Bay Residents’ Association (SFBRA) intends asking all property owners in St Francis Bay to contribute to a special fund to be used to employ outside contractors to address specific problem areas, i.e. roads, verges and storm water drainage in St Francis.
The was announced by the SFBRA in a release issued today, 22 February 2013. The SFBRA says the above decision is because: “We are now forced as residents to stand up and protect our investments. It is obvious our Council, mainly through financial reasons, is incapable of maintaining even a basic infrastructure.”
The SFBRA says it intends writing to all the St Francis Bay property owners. It further says: “Drastic action now needs to be taken. Legal advice clearly indicates that any form of rates boycott is currently not feasible.
“We will immediately be calling upon outside contractors to quote on the cutting of the grass verges, especially in the Santareme area as they have not been cut for at least six months due to industrial action. The cost for this will be borne out of our existing funds.
“We also urgently request all residents to pay their annual membership fees. It is essential that as an Association we are more representative of the total community. Many thanks to all the subscriptions paid this month, your contributions are greatly appreciated.
“Our subscription year runs from 1st January to the 31st December. The annual fee is just R360 (R30 a month) per ratepayer or R240 (R20 a month) for pensioners.
“One of the first projects the SFBRA intends tackling is the pruning of the palm trees in St Francis Drive. Unemployed Sea Vista residents will be paid by the SFBRA to conduct this work. We would welcome residents to participate, especially in a supervisory capacity and the loan/donation of saws/cutters.
“Council has approved this project and has agreed to remove the pruned branches. Any interested parties can contact Jacky Green on 042 200 1404, or Nigel Aitken on 082 465 3719. We intend to start this project as soon as possible.”
