SFBRA roads and infrastructure update

Pothole filling continued this week in Lyme Rd South, Assisi Drive, and St Francis Drive.

This is according to a release today by Nigel Aiken of the St Francis Bay Residents’ Association (SFBRA)

In the release Aitken says: “A lot of loose stone was swept up in St Francis Drive to stop further deterioration of the roads.

“The water pipes have been delivered to two sites in St Francis Drive and the SFBRA has employed John Hanley of St Francis Brick Hire to dig trenches and lay these pipes. This will be paid for by the SFBRA as we cannot wait for Council to go to tender to have these pipes installed.

“Work is due to commence early next week, once we are made aware of where the Telkom cables are situated. Once the pipes have been installed and the water drained, repair work will be conducted to the road surface.”

Aitken says other issues addressed this week included the extension of the stairways onto the beach at Main beach and Peter Crescent. It appears that some sand has come back on to the beach this week which is good news.

“However, the drop from both of these stairways to the beach is approximately 2 metres meaning that the sand will not build up sufficiently prior to holidaymakers arriving,” Aitken continues. “The stairway at Aldabara Run only has a small drop which should be fine by the holiday season.

“Other areas of access to the beach such as the ramp at Ann Avenue will also be repaired. Council has agreed to supply the Riparian Association with tar to repair the parking area adjacent to the slipway at the small boat harbour of La Digue Place.”

Aiten adds: “A big thanks to the Riparian Association for their persistence. We are still pushing for manpower to be made available to speed up the process of repairing our roads.”
