All we want for Christmas… a magnificent bridge (photo gallery)

Now this is what we need for upmarket St Francis to maintain and enhance its high standards!  The Viaduc de Millau shows us what can be done.

Viaduc de Millau

This is a superb masterpiece and a French bridge in the making. At 343 metres it is the tallest bridge in the world (owing to its one high mast) and it is higher than the Eiffel Tower.

According to Wikipedia, the Millau Viaduct is a cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the river Tarn near Millau in southern France. “It is designed by the British architect Norman Foster and French structural engineer Michel Virlogeux,
The one mast’s summit reaches 343.0 metres (1,125 ft).

“The viaduct is part of the A75-A71 autoroute axis from Paris toMontpellier. Construction cost was approximately €400 million. It was formally dedicated on 14 December 2004, inaugurated the day after and opened to traffic two days later.”

Please, please Mr Santa Clause…

Construction of this superb bridge, the Viaduc de Millau, is not for fainthearted engineers and labourers or those who suffer from vertigo – as the following photo gallery shows…  See an amazing photo gallery during and after construction of this bridge.
